Today is a great day. I took 2 days off where I only walked to help my knee settle down a little bit. Today, I figured I would push myself to see if I could run 5k yet without walking. I decided to give one of those gels a try. Let me tell you, the Cliff Shots Mocha is some NASTY stuff. I had to swallow it down like a pill with water...LOL.
Anyways, I breezed through the first 3.5-4k. I was surprised. I tried to keep my thoughts positive. It was weird, at about the 3k mark I got kinda giddy and said to myself, "I am going to make it!!!" At 4k I started getting tired. Despite that, I upped my speed for the last 400m and finished strong. Here are my times:
Nike+ = 3.3mi in 34:19 (walked a little bit before I paused it)
Treadmill = 3.11mi in 33:53
What is amazing is 1 month ago I could only run 1.25 miles without walking. Doing 5k run/walk combo would totally exhaust me. Today, I honestly think that if I was in the frame of mind to do 4 miles I could have! I was tired but not exhausted afterwards. *happy dance*
Sooooo....I have accomplished my goal of doing 5k in less than 35min!!! Next, I need to work on being able to do it outdoors. I think it is the heat of Guam more than anything that slows me down. That and my own head..LOL
Day 30- Rest Day - 3.11 mi walk - 52:56
Day 31 (today) - 4.11+ miles

Great job!! What a great feeling to reach that milestone!
Great job. I read your post on RW. Keep up the work. Or fun, as I like to think of running.
I'm a big propenent of using walk breaks to be able to run further. A lot of the back of the packers do it in the long races. I hope you're doing walk breaks to extend your runs. You'll be up to 5 miles a day in no time.
Good luck,
