Newspaper Shoot - Vietnam Vets

A couple people asked to see the pictures from my photo shoot from the newspaper last week. They were published in today's paper. (I didn't write the article, I only took the pics and captioned them.) Here is the link!

Pacific Daily News story & pics

I think the one at the right is my favorite of the set. As a military wife, it brought tears to my eyes listening to how the Vietnam Vets were treated. One gentleman said they flew them home to the States at night, so no-one would see them. I am so thankful things have changed nowadays! When my husband returned home from Iraq, he had people buying him beer and thanking him! I truly believe you can support the troops without supporting the war. So, thank you to all the Vietnam Vets out there. Also, thank you to everyone who supports the military despite the decisions our government may make! When you thank a Sailor, Soldier, Airman, or Marine, it means A LOT to them. So, if you ever get a chance, take the opportunity to thank them. (Thank the military wives/husbands too...LOL!!!)

Yesterday, my husband had 24hour duty. My friend and I took the boys to a GORGEOUS park by the beach so we could walk and they could ride their bikes. Unknown to us, there was a trail that led up a hill and through some woods. We ended up on a 1 mile hike up the trail to some beautiful hilltop views of the surrounding area. I LOVE hiking with my boys. They say the cuuuutest things. Last night, my 4.99 year old said that butterflies were a kind of bat, ever so confidently...LOL. I'll post a pic I took from the park a while back.

I had a few days where I ate poorly over the weekend. I have spent the past few days, trying to get back on track. It is very hard to get back 'on the horse' again after you fall off! However, I have done it :) I find that it is taking a more determination to eat right the farther into this I get. No wonder I always quit in the past after the first 2-3weeks!

The closer surgery inches forward, the more sad I am about having surgery. I think I am becoming addicted to the exercise/running. At first, I knew I would be sad because I would lose 2.5 months worth of hard work. Now I am just sad that I won't be able to exercise how I want too! I am dying to get back to soccer so I know it is for the best. I think this is the longest I have gone without playing soccer in 20+ years.

Day 40- Rest Day, 1500 calories, @ 2 mile hike/casual walk

I am extremely thankful and proud of our military all over the world. Especially my nephew who is a Marine and will be going back for his 2nd tour in Iraq this March. I believe that even if you are against the war, you can still be (and should be) in support of our troops! No matter what!

I worked with a Vietnam Vet in the early 90's and he gave me a book written about the 101st (his platoon). He signed it very sweetly, and finished by writing, "I hope your children never have to endure." I think about that often when I look at my kids and I pray that if they do have to endure, that they do so with strength, integrity, true grit, and faith in God.

K, gotta go cry now...

I am very grateful for our military men and women and those who support them at home. They are paying the ultimate price for our freedom.

Being a son of a retired Army, I didn't really care when my dad went away (didn't tell us where, I guess it was top secret!) but saw the sadness in my mom's eyes and the worry that he may never come back. Fortunately, my dad came back. That is why I am thankful and proud of all our military troops and their family because they sacrifice a lot to serve our country.
