Wow. I just ran 5 miles!!!

Today was NOT going to be a good day for running. I could feel it. I didn't even want to go to the gym, let alone go for a personal distance record.

I drug myself outta bed, got the boys ready for school, and got myself ready to go to the gym. I told myself I had to do at least 3mi (without walking) today. I didn't want to. I was pulling myself by the hair up the stairs and into the gym.

I did a 1/2mi walking warm-up, and then began to run. Hmmm, this isn't so bad. I am glad I came. The first mile, or so, goes by and it feels really good. I feel like I have a spring in my step. My energy level stays high, as I am around mile 2.

Hmmm, maybe I will go for 4 today instead. I have only done that one other time. That was a couple weeks ago.

I keep on going. Three miles is easier than it ever has been. Four will be no problem. I still feel like I have a lot of gas left in the tank. Visions of 5 miles start dancing into my head. Can I do it? Wouldn't it be great to be to be able to tell people that I can run 5 miles? Five miles and 22 lbs. That is such a great start to the year.

I look down at the distance for the first time. My estimate of 4 miles, or 3-4 songs per mile, is about right. Still feeling like I have a little gas left with 1/2mi to go, I pick up my speed. I finish strong. Wow. I did it. Me. I just ran 5 miles!!!!

Sunday - 1mi walk w/ family
Monday - 6mi on treadmill (5mi without walking in @ 56min- distance PR!)
1mi walk w/ dog

.............
Week 8 miles : 22
--------------------
2008 miles total : 137.5mi

Hi Jenn. I came across your blog through a message board I found on the Runners World website. I've just begun training for a marathon and enjoy reading about what other runners are doing. Congrats on your 5 mile run, that is awesome! I ran 3 miles straight yesterday - which was a huge deal for me because I haven't done that in YEARS. I usually have to stop to walk and even though I REALLY wanted to yesterday, I didn't stop. Also, congrats on your weight loss. :)
