New Year's Resolution 5k

Heat Index was around 89 at 4:30pm. Humidity was pretty low for here...it was around 75%. I drug the family out since it was a 'fun run.' I have 4 & 5 year old boys. I think my 5 year old has the running gene. He loves to run and is quicker than most kids his age. My 4 year old has the lazy gene and was complaining..LOL. This was their 1st 5k!

The plan was for me to run up ahead and my DH was going to stay with the boys. It didn't quite work out as planned! A few minutes into the race, my 5yr old asked if he could run ahead. Since it was all military and on a military base, we allowed it. He was FAST!!!!

He had me beat the first 2/3 of the race! He started getting tired and was taking sit breaks on the curb...LOL. Meanwhile, my DH was a way back, running with my 4yr old on his shoulders!

I suddenly got a spurt of energy, and finished strong. I think I run the last 1/2 mile of races faster than any other segment...LOL. I came in at 37:06. I was 59 seconds slower than my race 11 days ago. I was ok with it considering I haven't done any running since then.

I went back a little bit to finish with my 5yr old. You should have seen him sprinting for the finish line! It was so fun to watch! He had a 39:22. Awesome for his first race with NO training and considering he took SIT breaks! I think my DH and other son finished at 41.5min. My DH put my 4yr old down and let him sprint to the finish line. It was ADORABLE!

I have to say I LOVED our first experience doing a 5k as a family. It won't be our last.

Jenn,

You can SOOOOOOO do it, girl! Thanks for posting over on my blog. You just keep up the hard work and you will totally hit your '08 resolutions. I found that once I started running longer distances, my 5K time started really dropping off. Good Luck!
