Getting back too it

I haven't done much this week, but it's a start. I've done 3 run/walks of 2 miles each. HOLY COW...it is so much hotter here than it was before my surgery. Guam's temperature is roughly the same year round. However, the humidity doesn't feel as bad from November-Marchish thanks to some cooling winds. Two miles at 7:30am, this morning, was exhausting thanks to the heat. I think I will stick to 6am runs!

On Monday, I am planning on starting a 16 week 10K training program I printed off the internet. It will repeat my week of 2 milers and then slowly will increase from there. I am concentrating on slowly coming back to hopefully avoid shin splints and that nagging achilles tendinitis that seems to always find me.

My knee has been feeling great! My first run/walk it was really sore to where I was limping part of it. Today, it didn't bother me AT ALL!!!!! After my run, I took the boys to the swimming pool. It was the first time I have gotten in the pool since surgery. Swimming DID hurt my knee. Much more than running does. The kicking hurts, but isn't horrible. I hopefully will start swimming for cross traning once the kids start back to school.

I saw ortho yesterday. My surgeon didn't say much about the one spot on my knee that is very painful with full extension, full flexion, and crossing my leg. I see my physical therapist tomorrow and we shall see what he says. He has been right about my other two injuries, and I am really hoping he isn't correct about the torn meniscus! I am just thankful that pain doesn't bother me when running.

I am mad at Walmart. My Garmin was supposed to be here this week, according to what it said when I bought it. However, they sent it some slow ass way and it isn't going to be here for 2-3 more weeks!!!! I bought it from Walmart because it was the cheapest and last year my son's bike got here in 3 days from them!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRR! I was really hoping to have it for the start of the 10K training.

My eating has been better than vacation, but I have lots of room to improve. When I am starving, I have to remember that it is better to overeat healthy stuff than to grab a bag of whatever is handy and go to town. A few days ago, I grabbed some Frito's, thinking that a handful would quiet my hunger for a little bit until I could cook some lunch. That was a mistake...LOL!!! I ended up skipping lunch to help compensate for the amount of Frito's calories I downed!!!

So much for a super short blog.....

Boo Walmart shipping; hooray Garmin (and beer)!

I'm glad you decided to get the Garmin and will start training. You do know to slow down and/or stop if your knee gives you trouble... right?

Congrats on being back in action.

I'm hoping to get a Garmin soon, too, but I have to see when I can afford it. :)

And, thanks for your kind words on my blog -- I really appreciate them.

I gorge on watermelon when I feel like it. It's better than ice cream and mayo-soaked sandwiches. :)

I hope you get your Garmin soon. It's a very, very helpful tool. And I'm so glad your knee did not hurt at all while running. I knew you'd be back a-ok! It's weird how swimming sometimes makes the joints hurt a little. I know it still hurts my knees, and the toe joint I injured a while back. But I still love to swim. Looking forward to reading about your 10K training in the coming weeks, Jenn!
