My husband's leave was approved!!! We are going home to Colorado, for 2 weeks, in June!!! We have not been home for a visit since September 2005! The only family member I have seen since then has been one of my sisters. She is in the Army and stationed in Korea. She took the 3-4 hour flight here to see us last July.
I am so excited. My biggest concern is $$$!!! Military families are just rolling in the dough, let me tell ya ;o) We bought plane tickets round trip from Hawaii to Denver. We are going to try and take the free military flights from Guam to Hawaii and back. A round trip ticket from Guam to Denver runs about $1600. Multiply that by 4 and it gets VERY expensive! By going to HI first, we are only paying $482 per ticket. Still, that is nearly $2000 for the four of us for airfare alone! Add in the rental car and spending money, and we are estimating this trip to cost us around $5000!!!!
After being stationed here, I strongly believe the military should give each family one set of round trip tickets per 3 year overseas tour. Honestly, I find it kind of ridiculous they do not. I don't think it is too much to ask ;o)
I am also very excited about going to Hawaii, as none of us have ever been. We are hoping we get a quick flight out of here so that we have a few days to see Hawaii before our flight to Denver. Some good friends of ours are stationed there and I'd love to have time to hang out with them. They are letting us stay with them while we are there, which will help save some money. Yay for friends! LOL
Some odd news. I couldn't help it, and I hopped on the scale this morning to 'check the damage.' I wanted to see how much weight I have gained because I haven't been eating the best. Better, but not good. Well....I am back down to 246! I have lost 4 lbs since my post on the March 19th. What a great way to start the day...LOL! Honestly, I haven't been stressing and obsessing over what I eat. Maybe that has helped? I haven't been eating as bad as I was the first 19 days of the month. However, if we are stopping at McDonald's for dinner, I have McDonald's for dinner...fries and all. Maybe I should just continue trying to eat less and eat right without stressing so much about it all???? Mind games I tell ya!!!
Well, I gotta hop in the shower and get this Friday started. I have PT today, and am anxious for them to measure my flexion. I have spent at least and hour every day since Monday working on my flexion and I THINK it has improved!!! I am praying it has so that the physical therapists don't have to push on my leg. It was SO painful. I think I handle the pain better when I am pushing on my own leg rather than someone doing it for me. Wish me luck!!!!

definitely agree on the tickets, especially for overseas locations. It is damn expensive to fly out of Guam.
Are you guys just stopping by here for a few hours or days? I was going to suggest taking the bus as a transportation but I just remember you have 2 boys with you!
Anyways, when you come here don't forget to try the shave ice from Matsumoto. =)
I completely agree that the military should provide a few free tickets per year for our men and women in the military and their families. It seems silly that they don't.
Good luck with PT!
HI found your blog when searching about knee recon. I had my right knee reconstructed 6th march using patella tendon and am counting down the days until I can run again. I am at 90 for flexion and it is painful to get any further. look forward to reading about your recovery and comparing notes
