I had my first PT appointment today. It was nothing special. They measured my range of motion and checked to see if I could do a straight leg raise. I have 2°-70° for range of motion. The 2° isn't bad...that is almost straight.. However that 70° sucks. I have been stuck at 70° for a week despite my attempts to push further. Let me tell you, trying to bend your knee post acl-reconstruction is SOOO PAINFUL!!! I can easily do the straight leg raise and the PT seemed surprised by that.
I got the ok to officially ditch the crutches. I have been totally off of them for a few days. My surgeon told me to stay on them until PT said I could stop using them. However, it is very hard to use crutches when you don't think you need them. I felt like I was 'faking' using crutches because I could walk without them...LOL. I am so stubborn ;o)
So, starting Wednesday, I have PT three times a week. Yuck. Then I'll be reassessed and hopeful can drop down to 2 days per week. He said it will depend on my progress. He said don't expect to be running until 3.5 months post-op at the earliest. I will try for 3 months...lol.
I have gained 3 pounds since surgery. I am embarrassed to admit that, but I will get nowhere if I do not blog the truth. Even though I am embarrassed to admit that, I am proud that it is only 3lbs. After my surgery last June, I gained way more than that. Sitting around the house and not being able to do much equals me eating way too much crap!!!
I figure, my first day of PT is the perfect day to start back on track. I can't wait to be doing SOME sort of exercise again. I really wish I could be running, though!
So, my goal is to be at 244 by April 15th.
Here's to day one of a new goal...

I'll bet your PT will give you a great form of resistive exercise. You'll be back to running in no time. :)
Hey Jenn, don't worry about any extra weight coming on right now. Just focus on the PT and getting healthy enough to get back to what you miss...running! The weight will come off again!
Remember Jenn, PT is critical to recovery. Try thinking of it as a little "me" time... after all, it's a time when the kids aren't jumping all over you making demands.
It's not spa me time, but it is me time nonetheless.
searching for a P.T in Guam.. name of Lani or Juliene (maiden name Duenas) used to live in CA. could it be your P.T. there in Guam???? Please forward my email address tahoeptone@yahoo.com Im a P.T from CA and wish you good luck in your recovery! you sound like you are well on your way! Denise
Good luck on your recovery. It is never easy to recapture the mobility, strength, etc. after surgery, but many people come back faster, stronger (you know "6 Million Dollar Man" stuff)and more in tune with their bodies after the journey. Just a suggestion, but have you considered enlisting Pilates to aid in your rehab, weight management & return to the road?
peace.
