Coincidence!!!!......and more running news!

Last Thursday, I was shopping at the commissary (military grocery store.) I showed the cashier my military ID, set it on the counter next to the credit card machine, and continued loading up my groceries onto the belt. Halfway through, the cashier pauses my order in order to finish the transaction of a lady who was two people ahead of me. The lady had to run to the ATM for more cash. She resumed ringing up my order, and I went to pay. My ID was GONE!!!!!!!!!!! The ATM lady took off with it!

You have to understand, without my military ID I would be in trouble. I have to have it to get on base and to get into my housing area. I have to have it to shop at the commissary, the NEX (Navy Exchange, a department store), the gas station, the library.....everything on base. So there I was, with $171 worth of groceries, no ID, and knowing I could not go home because I didn't have my ID to get into the gate! To make matters worse, our IDs have our social security numbers on it AND our husband's social security numbers!!!

Long story short, a friend came and brought me to my house with my groceries. My husband had to come home from work and take me to security and then to get a new ID. *SIGH* That ruined last Thursday for me!

Fast forward to yesterday. The commissary calls me, and lets me know the lady brought my ID back. *WHEW*!!!!!! At least it wasn't anyone crazy who took it and used our SSN's...LOL.

I went in today and got my ID. After I got in my van, I was looking at my new and old ID. I happened to glance at the issue date. 24May2006 was on my old one. 24May2007 was my new one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How weird is that? Strange coincidence.

Ok, so maybe you don't think that is totally cool. LOL

Jumping subjects. Some good news! Running is getting LESS painful each time I do it! Even though I am not doing much yet, it really has done so much for my mood. I truly think I have fallen in love with running even though I sometimes hate it when I am exhausted and pushing myself. Stairs have gotten more painful since running, but the running itself is much less painful than day 1.

Tuesday, I set out to just walk 3 miles. I brought my camera along, and planned on snapping some pictures as I walked along the beach portion of my route. Along the beach, is a trail/road that they recently fixed up. It was an out-and-back route, and on the way back I saw a runner wearing a fuel belt. He had stopped to readjust it. It's pathetic how excited I was to see a fuel belt in person...LOL! I asked him a few questions about it, and then he continued on his run.

Then I got the bright idea to run...LOL. I couldn't help it. I enjoyed every single minute of it. It was the first time I have ran outdoors since February! I probably only ran a total of .75 miles, being that I am supposed to only be running on the treadmill at physical therapy. It felt good. It also felt good knowing I haven't lost 100% of my endurance from before the surgery. Maybe 80%, but not all!

Yesterday, I had PT. They have stepped it up and now I actually feel like I am getting a workout. I did 15 minutes on the elliptical, stretched, and then did 20min on the treadmill. I did 2min run, 2 min walk. I varied my pace from 10min/mile to a 11:30min/mile, which isn't bad considering I averaged 11:15 before surgery. I really wish PT had more treadmills so I could stay on longer! I finished up the session with my strength training exercises and ice. Good times.

The pictures. Not the best, but it gives you and idea. In the first one, you can see the beach where I ran. The water is pretty clear here. If you look in the water, you can actually see the coral underneath. (The coral are the dark spots in the water.) The second pic is just of the gravel paved road alongside the beach. The beach is just through the trees on the left.

Glad you got that ID back! That woulda been a nightmare.

SOOOOOOo glad you are running again, even if just a little, and that it doesn't feel as bad. You'll get your fitness back so much faster than you initially did. No worries!

Beautiful pictures. I cannot wait to take another Hawaiin vacation... I know you're in Guam, but Hawaii is closer. ;)

Whew! Glad the ID is back in your possession.

As for the scenery, I'm totally jealous. I'd love to look at that every time I set out on a run.

Hi Jenn! How are you doing? I hope well. I was reading over my blog and I wanted to thank you for your kind words during a very rough time for me.

How is the running going? Are you back at it? I can totally relate when you talk about stairs being more painful since running lol. I go through the same thing.

Anyhoo, just saying hi!
