Today was my follow up with my physical therapist.
The GOOD: He ok'd me to start running! I can only run at PT for now and on a run/walk program. If I do well there, I can start running on the treadmill at the gym. After that I will progress to being allowed to run outdoors.
The BAD: I ran today a little bit. It HURT LIKE HELL! I was really surprised by how much it hurt to run. I pushed through, though, because it felt SO good to run despite the pain. I did 2 min walk with one minute running for only twelve minutes. By the end of each 1 minute run, I was ready to walk due to the pain. Other than that, I felt like I could keep on running forever! I seriously would have stayed on that treadmill for another hour if they let me! I was SO excited to run. You have NO idea.
The UGLY: My physical therapist suspects a meniscal tear. I am just thankful that he is allowing me to try running. He seemed leery about it but I think he saw my determination to start running again. He thinks that is what keeps giving me so much pain upon full extension and flexion. It is the same pain I have been writing about for a while. My MRI did show a meniscal tear, but they could not find it during surgery. I follow up with my surgeon in July. I honestly have to say I will be pissed if I have to have ANOTHER surgery and have to go through all this PT again.
It has been nearly 1 year since my surgery for compartment syndrome and since I tore my ACL. I am so ready to be normal again and to not be in physical therapy!!!

Good for you! You must start somewhere. Great to read you did it.
Pat
Congrats on getting out there and giving it a go. Just stay within the advice of your doctors/PT, and--here comes the cliche we've all heard and sometimes ignore to our peril--"listen to your body"!
Soooo glad you got the okay to run, but don't break the rules Jenn! You might end up hurting yourself seriously again, and making the suspected meniscal tear worse. Take it easy missy! We want to see you running for the long haul. :) Welcome back!
You're getting there, but I know it's not quickly enough for you. Slow and steady wins the race. :)
Just as eeryone is saying follow the advice of your doctors/pt and ake your time to heal. Glad you're back running. Just take your time and do it slow!
