Fear of Failing

Ya know, I have failed in nearly every attempt I have made to lose weight. I once was successful and lost 35lbs or so, but I put it all back on plus 10 more. Funny thing is, after I had lost that weight, I swore I would never go back to being this heavy and here I am!!! I have failed so much that I seem to expect it from myself now. There is now a lingering sense of doubt. I never give up trying, though, even though I never win.

Anyways, I was a little sore last night. It was the same soreness I had after my compartment syndrome surgery in June. I still get some minor swelling in my calves/shins. I iced them and decided it was best to skip the running and just do the elliptical today.

I've decided to COUNT elliptical trainer miles in my 13 miles per week goal.

Day 2 - 3mi on elliptical
______
2pm - Gym
- 3mi on elliptical trainer, level 3, in 35min.
- @10min. cool down, level 1, 1/2mi
- 5 sets of 10 leg presses w/ 230lbs
- 3 sets of calf raises at 80lbs (was only able to do 20 lbs back in Sept. when I was 3mo post-op
- 3 sets of squats using exercise ball against the wall, holding 12lb medicine ball

1505 calories for the day
Ackkk- make that about 1700 calories for the day. At 8:30pm my stomach was growling like crazy and water would not stop it. I opted for 1/2 a grilled chicken breast and about 10 almonds. I feel bad for going over my 1500 limit, but I truly was hungry. I did burn up 600+ calories at the gym today, so that is a good thing at least.

Hi I just thought i'd just leave you a message telling you that you can never fail if you don't believe in failure. if you want any help through your journey, i will be here to answer questions and stand by you along the way. i don't want to sound creepy or anything.. i'm going to school for physical therapy, and i also have a nutritional background to help with weight loss/maintenance. i have also run 3 marathons, with my next in may, and i have 10 years of running experience. wish you the best of luck and ask if you would like help.

Hi Amanda :)
Thank you so much for the encouragement. I know it is all my own fault, but it gets old the more I screw up.

I am totally for any advice I can get. I appreciate the offer. I don't know how to live like a skinny person. Well, I know HOW but my thought processes do not. Make any sense? I know how to eat and exercise like a skinny person but I have the mind of a fat one...LOL

Jenn,

You can do this. Up until last May I said I didn't run for a bus and now I'm training for a half marathon.

Buddy up with someone to make it easier and think of it as "shedding" weight rather than "losing." I find that when I "lose" weight, I tend to "find" it again. But when I "shed" it, it's gone.

Good luck to you. A year ago I was barely able to breathe in my 18's (and in full denial about that reality) and my 16's are now starting to get loose. It's slow, but it can be done.

Good luck to you.

Jenn,

I think your limit of 1500 calories a day may be a little aggressive. Based on your post over at RW, Beginners Forum, the calorie intact for the weight you wish to obtain (170#) is around 2,000. This is what I would target for your daily intake.

Also, try spreading your calories through out the day. Eat light meals (250 - 350) calories 6 - 7 times a day. This should fend off the "hungries" and yet supply your body with sustenance when it needs it. If you eat 2, or even 3, times daily your body may be in the mode to store some of it as fat for use later.
